Basalt/Flax Hybrid 3oz Woven Cloth

$11.50

This is the  NEXT STEP in ECO Surfboard cloths ! MIX BASALT and FLAX together to make a true performance cloth.

Basalt /Flax 3oz cloth is easily laminated just like 4oz eglass but has the strength of Sglass in the vertical thread of the cloth and has the natural material of Flax in the horizontal  this brings  amazing dampening properties in this performance cloth  - so less chatter on EPS boards

What is Basalt?

Basalt is a hard dense volcanic rock.  It’s an igneous rock formed through the rapid cooling and solidification of lava.  Basalt fibre is produced in a continuous process using crushed basalt rock, the only raw material required for its manufacture.   It provides a good compromise between glass (20% stronger) and carbon (Not as brittle)

Features

  • Strong impact protection – will not shatter like carbon fibre
  • Naturally UV resistant
  • Maintains its physical integrity in stressful situations
  • High tensile strength
  • Similar flex to Fibreglass performanc

What is Flax

Flax yarn is spun from the long fibers found just behind the bark in the multi-layer stem of the flax plant (Linum usitatissimum). In order to retrieve the fibers from the plant, the woody stem and the inner pith (called pectin), which holds the fibers together in a clump, must be rotted away. The cellulose fiber from the stem is spinnable and is used in the production of of our yarn that we make into our Flax Fiberglass products.

Features

  • Low weight – flax fibres have a typical density of 1.4 g/cm³; this compares favourably with glass fibres (2.5 g/cm³) and carbon fibres (1.8 g/cm³)
  • Inherently vibration damping
  • Low environmental impact
  • Natural aesthetics
