Gearbox 24 Fin Box Installation Kit

$125.00

The GB24 router jig is the central component of the system. Everything revolves around it. The jig's primary role is to guide the routing cavities into which the boxes are installed. A guide insert installed in the jig serves as the guide. It is made out of PHENOLIC for strength and wear resistance. This insert is removable, so it can easily be replaced if needed. It is also removable to allow different inserts to be swapped in for installation in the future of other system parts, e.g., a canard box or leash plug.

The jig is outfitted with optional tape tabs that can be added to help attach it to a board for the routing process. Different tab positions on the jig facilitate the attachment process. A soft rubber pad is attached to the bottom of the jig to protect the board when placing the jig. The outer perimeter of the jig has a beveled edge to give the jig a narrower bottom and to facilitate lifting the jig.

The positioning of the router jig on the board is facilitated by inserting the layout guide into the jig insert. This guide features engraved layout lines that assist in accurately positioning the jig on the shaper’s marks.

A replacement bushing router base is provided for our recommended trim routers. This base incorporates a bushing guide, enabling the utilization of a cost-effective straight router bit. It is also wider than the standard base for improved stability on the jig during the routing process. While its use is optional, a router bit with a bearing will be necessary if not employed. It is crucial to ensure that the router bit used is precisely sized to create a cavity for the box accurately. The dimensions of this legacy router bit are 1/4" diameter shaft, 3/8" diameter cutter, and 1/2" diameter bearing. The standard router bit dimensions are a 1/4 inch shaft and a 3/8 inch diameter cutter with a one-inch length.

We have set up this install kit to be used with Makita router RTO701C but we have worked out an option for other routers - contact us for details on using a ryobi router

A depth gauge is provided to help quickly set the initial depth of the router bit in the router.
